Short Take: Airlines to offer inflight Web service

Next year airline passengers will be able to use their mobile phones, surf the Internet, and send emails when traveling. The United Kingdom's largest telecommunications company, British Telecommunications, will use its Skyphone Mobile Connect service to allow passengers to route calls from their personal cell phones to a phone on board, according to Reuters. Virgin Atlantic will introduce the inflight service, including Web access, starting early next year. Other participating airlines include British Airways and Singapore Airlines. Charges for Web access will be determined by the individual airlines.
