Sharp announces Linux handheld

Sharp announced on Thursday that it will make its Zaurus SL-5000D handheld available in November for developers. As previously reported, the handheld will use a version of the Linux operating system. The SL-5000D comes with 32MB of memory. Sources have said that a consumer version with 64MB of memory will be available in the first quarter.

The SL-5000D comes with a keyboard under a sliding cover and a color display with a resolution of 240 pixels by 320 pixels. The handheld also sports CompactFlash and Secure Digital expansion slots.
