Sega trims Dreamcast price

Sega has cut the price of its Dreamcast video game console by another 20 percent in an effort to clear out remaining stock of the defunct hardware, the company said Monday. The console will now cost $79 at retail outlets and via Sega's online store.

Sega decided to leave the hardware business earlier this year and focus on game software. The company has since been trying to clear out remaining stocks of the console, originally dropping the $149 price tag to $99 in the United States and even holding a garage sale at the company's U.S. headquarters in San Francisco. Sega executives have declined to specify how many Dreamcasts remain in inventory. "We are on track with our previously announced plans to sell through all the remaining Dreamcast units," Chris Gilbert, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Sega of America, said in a statement.
