Sega tries to clear out Dreamcasts

The Dreamcast lives--sort of. Video game maker Sega said this week it will release a new edition of the game console, which the company halted production on in February, in hopes of clearing out remaining inventory. The Dreamcast R7 is the version of the console sold to Japanese pachinko arcades. It is identical to the consumer version of the Dreamcast, except for its black casing. The R7 will go on sale in September only in Japan for around $78 (9,900 yen).

Sega decided to leave the hardware business earlier this year and to focus on game software. The company has since been trying to clear out remaining stocks of the console, dropping the price to $99 in the United States and even holding a garage sale at the company's U.S. headquarters in San Francisco.
