This week, CNET News.com ran a series on the people who make security happen at Yahoo, Microsoft and Google. The byline, if you noticed, was former News.com reporter Joris Evers. Well, Evers hasn't returned to CNET; it was his last and perhaps best work to date. CNET's Robert Vamosi talks with Evers about his reporting, and what kind of access he was granted while working on the series. Evers also discusses his new job at McAfee, where he is director of public relations.

Also this week, IBM acknowledged that earlier this year a third-party contractor misplaced a tape containing the personal information of current and former IBM employees. The tape was lost in transit to its Armonk, N.Y., headquarters in February. Recently, IBM was in the news as one of the companies helping to investigate the massive data breach at TJX.

A number of MySpace.com profiles have been hit with FluxBot (aka "Fast-Flux"). It's a malicious proxy network that hides a number of phishing and malware delivery sites.

Compromised MySpace computers could be used in a botnet, a network of compromised PCs. In this week's Security Watch column, Vamosi talks about the economics of botnets, how some people are making money from malware, the barriers to entry for newbies, and the complex economics that govern who owns thousands of compromised computers. And you think the corporate world is dog-eat-dog.
