Secure Digital gets new specifications

The Secure Digital Association has added a new input/output specification to the Secure Digital flash-memory card format, the group said at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The new specification will enable the SD slot on a device to serve as a port for peripherals without adding circuit complexity that can increase the size of the device. Cards for Bluetooth wireless connections and for imaging and navigational capabilities have been in development; the new specification will allow manufacturers to finalize new product designs. The association has also ratified new specifications for personal-information management data and imaging.
