SanDisk to supply Samsung with miniSD

SanDisk announced Tuesday that it plans to supply Samsung Electronics with 32MB miniSD cards for its SPH-S2300 cell phone. The phone will come with a 3.2-megapixel built-in digital camera, a 3x optical linear zoom, and it will feature video-recording capabilities. The camera has started selling in Korea. miniSD cards are roughly half the size of Secure Digital cards and are intended for use in cell phones and tiny digital audio players.

Flash memory cards have been shrinking in size while growing in capacity to better accommodate the needs of cell phone makers. SanDisk has been aggressive in targeting cell phone makers with its cards. Samsung holds the No. 3 market share position for cell phone in the world, behind Nokia and Motorola. Phones are gradually incorporating new features, such as digital cameras and video, that require built-in or local storage.
