SanDisk made a handful of mini flash memory card announcements on Thursday at the CeBit trade show in Hannover, Germany. The company expanded the availability of its miniSD cards from Japan to worldwide, in capacities from 64MB to 256MB, priced from $44.99 to $94.99. In addition, its Memory Stick Pro Duo cards are now being delivered to device makers in capacities from 32MB to 128MB, for $14 to $43. It also introduced a smaller MultiMediaCard (MMC) in 32MB, 64MB and 128MB capacities, which will ship in the second quarter.
Flash memory cards have been shrinking in size while growing in capacity to better accommodate the needs of cell phone makers. Phones are gradually incorporating new features, such as digital cameras, that require built-in or local storage.
