SanDisk, Sony expand Memory Stick deal

SanDisk and Sony are expanding a previous partnership to cover some of the new removable flash memory cards that have been developed, the two companies announced earlier this week. Removable flash memory cards are solid-state memory used in portable consumer-electronics and PC products. Under the new agreement, SanDisk will begin to manufacture and sell Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick Select and Memory Stick I/O cards using the SanDisk brand.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based SanDisk and the entertainment and consumer-electronics giant Sony established a relationship in September 2001 to sell Memory Stick cards. SanDisk later worked with Sony to co-develop the Memory Stick Pro cards, which offered higher storage capacities and faster record times. SanDisk has been manufacturing Memory Stick Pro cards under the previous agreement.
