Sales brisk for new Game Boy

Japanese video game giant Nintendo announced Friday that it has sold more than 800,000 units of its new version of the Game Boy since the portable game player went on sale in North America two weeks ago. The Game Boy Advance SP improves on the original Game Boy Advance by adding an illuminated screen, a built-in rechargeable battery and a folding clamshell design that protects the screen when not in use.

Nintendo has long dominated the market for portable gaming, with various versions of the Game Boy selling more than 120 million units since the line was introduced in 1989. The company faces new threats, however, from the growing market for cell phone games.
