SWsoft adding 64-bit support this summer

SWsoft, whose Virtuozzo software makes Windows or Linux servers appear to have multiple independent instances of their operating systems, will release support for new 64-bit x86 processors this summer. The company announced its plans Tuesday. New 64-bit processors from Intel and Advanced Micro Devices permit easy use of more than 4GB of memory, a useful feature for computers running many independent tasks.

Also Tuesday, VMware--along with Microsoft a major SWsoft competitor--reported financial results. The EMC subsidiary had revenue of $80 million in the first quarter of 2005, an increase of 104 percent over the year-earlier quarter. VMware introduced partial 64-bit support into its newest workstation product last week.
