SGI nabs Red Hat veteran

SGI has lured Paul McNamara away from Red Hat to become vice president in charge of open-source efforts, SGI said Wednesday at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo. SGI, a maker of high-end servers and workstations in Mountain View, Calif., has embraced Linux wholeheartedly but is struggling to recover financially.

McNamara, 39, was vice president of business development at Red Hat, working at the Durham, N.C., company through its transition to become a publicly traded company.
