SCO Group names new marketing chief

The SCO Group, a Unix seller locked in several legal battles regarding the intellectual property of Unix and Linux, promoted Tim Negris to executive vice president of sales and marketing on Friday. Chief Executive Darl McBride will lead the management team and set company strategy, but Negris will oversee operations, the company said.

Negris also will help SCO try to build its business in emerging markets such as Brazil, Russia, India and China. Negris, who worked earlier at IBM and Oracle, previously was senior vice president of marketing for the Lindon, Utah-based company.

Useless person...
by Earl Benser February 18, 2006 3:44 PM PST
... in a useless job, .... for a useless company. That seems to make
more sense than anything else SCO has done in the past couple of
years. And it does fit the corporate image.

Why else would you risk your reputation and work for SCO?

It should be "new marketing thrief"
by VinnyD February 19, 2006 12:25 PM PST
Instead of naming the guy new marketing chief, it should read New Marketing Thief. What the SCO thiefs were trying to do in the last couple years were collecting money from the open source software community, the people who developed the free and powerful Linux.

SCO Needs More Than Marketing

As far as I can tell, SCO has lost most or all of its credibility in the technical community. What is there to market for SCO? Lawsuits?

exactly!

SCO knew they were in trouble and this suit and protection rackets was a last attempt at profitibility.

Sad thing is that if you are not a law firm and your business strategy is to profit through litigation, you are doomed to fail. Especially since SCO has no proof at all.
Fire the CEO

I think they should fire the McBribe and drop all lawsuits with a very big 'We're Sorry'.

Outside of that I wonder if McBribe could get a job at Microsoft in a top position. He's done wonders for SCO maybe after he brings them down he can go knock Microsoft down a few notches. :)

**Start of bad political humor**
Nothing like corporate ter... er I can't say that or the NSA, CSI, FBI, and George Bush will come a knocking at more door. At least I don't have to worry about the Department of Homeland Security as they are late to respond to anything.

How much longer?

It absolutely boggles the mind that the SCO drama can get played out for this long. This is beyond all sanity. Why the courts haven't wrapped this up LONG ago defies logic.
