This was the right decision that this judge made. The AllofMP3 franchise did NOT operate in violation of copyright laws WHEN THEY WERE OPEN, and actually still do not, since they have tried to pay the copyright owners some money for the use of their songs and the sale of their songs.
Really, we need to put limits on these copyright laws, enforce federally and world-wide mandated highest prices on software, music, videos, DVD's, etc., and start getting on the illegal tactics that the big media corporations use.
I have no problem with them making a REASONABLE amount of money on a song, but limiting it to one machine? Filling it with so much DRM that they are impossible to play on your choice of media player? No, that is not right, and the corporations should be punished for that.
Actually, you are incorrect, AllofMP3 DID operate in violation of both US and International copyright laws when they were open. For one thing, they did not obtain permission from any copyright owner to sell the material. This is mandated by both US and International law. Second, althought they told you they were paying copyright owners, they for the most part weren't. This website benefited from antequated Russian Copyright laws and a corrupt legal system.

by big media corporation do you mean AllofMP3.com? they certainly are a big corporation that practices illegal activities. Also, who would set these "mandated highest prices"? I believe your problem, like most people, isn't with the laws themselves, but with the high prices and restrictions on music. I can understand that, but your remedy is clear--stop buying the music. The market will fix the problem. I can almost bet you would change your mind if you created something tomorrow, wanted to sell it to your neighbor for $1, and then some russian guy stole your creation and sold it to your neighbor for $.10. After all, that IS what we are talkiing about here, isn't it?
...that Russia, the former head of the "Evil Empire" that was the Soviet Union appears to have a civil court with more sense than our own.
As long as AllofMP3 can prove they have made every effort to pay royalties to copyright owners it's not their problem the music industry won't cash the checks.
Cultures are clashing. The rich are over protective and unfair about what they own as far as IP. There are conditions where the motive to steal content out weigh the risks of doing it. Sorry, but it is a fact that if you leave the cookie jar open cookies will be missing. PEOPLE STEAL. LARGE CORPORATIONS STEAL. It all comes down to everyone is greedy or wants something for nothing. Both sides of the same coin. It is ironic that both perspectives deserve each other. This is NEVER going to stop.
