VH1.com, the Web site for the music-video channel, today launched rock 'n' roll auction site "Rock Collectors," joining the crush of online auction sites.
Fans, bargain hunters and groupies can view items--such as paintings by David Bowie or John Lennon, guitars autographed by Jeff Beck or John Fogerty, and Buddy Holly's belt buckle--by watching the weekly one-hour series "Rock Collectors" on VH1. Following the show, auctioneers can go to VH1.com and bid for items online.
The success of online auction leader eBay has led to an explosion of niche auction sites trying to cash in on this growing market.
"Rock Collectors is a unique way for our audience to tell their stories behind the music and to get their hands on pieces of rock history," Fred Graver, VH1.com's senior vice president, said in a statement.
He said that all merchandise up for auction is certified by the Association of Music Memorabilia Professionals.
