Red Hat delays test of 2.6 kernel Linux

Red Hat hoped to release a first test version of Linux based on the new 2.6 kernel Monday, but delayed the move until later in the week. "In short, it's not working quite well enough to push out yet," Red Hat developer Bill Nottingham said Sunday on a mailing list about the test1 version of Fedora Core 2. Red Hat uses the Fedora version to try to hasten the maturity of new features that later will be included in Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Fedora Core 2 is scheduled for final release on April 5. The first version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux to use the 2.6 kernel, RHEL 4, is expected in early 2005.
