Red Hat adds systems monitoring

On the eve of the LinuxWorld event in San Francisco, Red Hat announced an update to its Red Hat Certificate System and the addition of monitoring capability to its Red Hat Network management tool. Additionally, the Linux provider said it working with Hewlett-Packard on a software bundle for blade servers. The bundle includes the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system, software to install multiple servers, and a Red Hat Network Proxy for management purposes, Red Hat said at an event for media here.

Red Hat Certificate System is software that handles digital certificates for access to enterprise systems. With version 7.1, available Tuesday, Red Hat adds a management system for smart cards, the company said. Additionally, Red Hat has partnered with the Mozilla Foundation to offer smart cards in the upcoming versions of the Firefox Web browser and Thunderbird e-mail client. To help users manage their system, Red Hat Network now has a Network Monitoring Module for keeping tabs on systems, network functionality and applications. The company also has a new catchphrase for its security and management related offerings: "Security in a Networked World."
