Red Hat, Compaq team with computer builder

Linux software seller Red Hat has begun a partnership with Compaq Computer and computer customizer Pioneer-Standard under which Pioneer-Standard will preinstall Red Hat's operating system and e-commerce software on Compaq servers, the companies said Monday, on the first day of the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo. Cleveland, Ohio-based Pioneer-Standard sells midrange computers as well as electronic components.

Two weeks ago, Red Hat began selling its E-commerce Suite, which bundles Red Hat's version of Linux with its Interchange electronic catalog software, the Red Hat Database version of PostgreSQL, the Secure Webserver version of Apache, CommerceLauncher configuration tools and the Red Hat Network for automatic updates from Red Hat.
