RealNetworks, Starz launch movie service

RealNetworks will launch a broadband movie service through a deal with Starz Encore Group, the companies said Monday. The new service will let subscribers download an unlimited number of movies for $12.95 per month. The movies will be available in RealVideo 10 and can be downloaded using Real's RealPlayer service. They will take around 20 minutes to download, the companies said.

Consumers can watch the movies on their PC or on a television linked to a PC with an S-video cable. Subscribers will also get access to a streamed version of the Starz Cable channel. The announcement comes about 18 months after the two companies first made public their plans to work together. The service was originally scheduled to launch in 2003.
