RealNames offers free demo

RealNames is trying to gain momentum for its new keyword Web-searching service by offering a free demo for Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) users. RealSearch allows customers to access and query search engines such as Google and Yahoo from a Microsoft IE browser address line. Customers enter the name of the search engine in the IE browser followed by a space, then by the term or category they want to find.

The new service is built on RealName's existing search technology and a product called Global Keyword Namespaces, which the company sells to companies and domain name owners. The deal is the result of an ongoing partnership between Redwood City, Calif.-based RealNames and Microsoft, which began last year when the software giant announced it would take a 20 percent stake in RealNames and push for new Web-navigation standards.
