Pinnacle Micro (PNCL) R-CD 4x4 may sound like the name of a new truck, but it's actually the company's latest quad-speed recordable CD drive.

The R-CD 4x4 reads and writes to disk at 4X speed aided by a 1MB internal cache buffer for better data throughput. Most of the common recordable CD formats are supported, including ISO 9660, mixed mode, HFS, disc-to-disk, multisession, and others, the company says.

In addition to recording software for use in Windows 3.x, Windows 95, and NT environments, Pinnacle also includes Disc Archive that can store up to 2GB of data using a patent-pending storage method. For Macintosh, the company supplies R-CD Backup, which has most of the capabilities of Disc Archive and CD Burner 2.0 for recording.

The internal version of the drive for PC-compatibles will retail for $995, while the PC and Mac external version will retail for $1,095.
