Qwest offers new IP voice service

Qwest Communications International, a communications carrier, announced a new Internet-based wholesale voice service dubbed Qwest CyberVoice Interconnect. The company plans to sell the service to carriers, ISPs and other Internet companies. Previously, Qwest had offered Internet-based voice services targeted at consumers. The company signed a multiyear, multimillion pact with Sonus Networks to install that company's software-based switching technologies. Qwest's new CyberVoice service is based upon Sonus' "softswitch" products.
