Quote of the day: Johnson 'not a dweeb'

In a story about longtime Windows chief Jim Allchin, who's retiring from Microsoft at the end of next year, an analyst said the exec's successor won't be able to fill his shoes, as far as geekiness is concerned.

"(Kevin) Johnson will occupy the box that Allchin occupied, but he is not a dweeb. He is a very capable manager, but not the company's senior technical architect," said Rob Helm, of Directions on Microsoft. "It was striking to me that Microsoft did not name anyone, really, to replace Allchin. There is a job he did that is currently vacant."
