Why not switch to Laser printers, especially for B&W? You just "like" running to the store for ink jet stuff, effectively buying your printer 3 times over a years time? Last big whoop ink jet I had required new print heads as well as color cartridges...about $400 every 4 months....baloney.If 70% of your printing is B&W, laser will save you money, and lower your blood pressure.
You're right on, Richard. Laser is cheaper and faster. Most of us do the majority of our printing in black and white I suspect. When I bought a 4-in-1, I waited until I could afford a laser 4-in-1 (HP3300). On the rare occasions when I need color in a text document I use my Canon i9900. But for the most part I only use that for printing photographs. And yes, the printer cartridges eat my lunch! They've even gone up in price since I bought my Canon last fall.
As to the quote about Dell's under a $100 cost being a "disruptive price", one can only hope so. The fact that it can sell a laser at less than $100 (and make a profit) suggests to me that the others have been selling at an artificially inflated price. Maybe the consumers will win for a change. Well just remember you can only buy supplies from Dell.
And with ink, they sell you extras when you purchase the printer. If you have any problems, and I have met three people that have, tough luck. Your ink is good for thirty days, if it is defective please order more and wait.
I would rather pick up my supplies at Staples thank you.
