Quokka lands baseball deal

Sports entertainment site Quokka Sports says it has inked a deal with Major League Baseball Advanced Media to create an official, live sports scoring system. Under the deal, San Francisco-based Quokka will provide technology to deliver real-time statistical coverage of every Major League Baseball game on MLB.com. The new scoring system, which is expected to be launched in March, will include traditional baseball statistics with sports information, such as pitch and hit locations.

Early this month, Quokka unveiled the official Web site for the Men's and Women's NCAA Basketball Championships to provide real-time coverage of the games. The announcement comes shortly after Quokka laid off 217 employees, or 59 percent of its work force.
