Profits, revenue climb at Rambus

Memory designer Rambus reported Thursday that it saw net income rise to $10.4 million, or 10 cents a share, on revenue of $38.8 million in the third quarter. That's a substantial leap from net income of $5 million, or 5 cents a share, on revenue of $28.6 million in the year-ago period.

The jump in net income was attributed to foreign tax credit utilization and to new contracts for XDR, a high-speed interface for future memory. Sony, Toshiba and Matsushita have all taken out XDR licenses for chips that will go into future consumer products.
