PivX touts hot online sales

Security software vendor PivX said Tuesday that it has licensed more than 1,500 copies of its intrusion-protection software for Windows-based computers, just one week after first making the application available over the Web. The Newport Beach, Calif.-based company said it has experienced overwhelming response to adding its Qwik-Fix Pro Home Edition, which retails for $34.95, to the selection of products it markets online.

The product is aimed at consumers and small businesses, and promises to protect users from threats including worms and viruses before software vendors make security patches available. The company said that one catalyst for the rapid sales was Microsoft's recent announcement that it plans to halt independent distribution of many of the security updates built into its Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) release. The PivX security package works with computers running Microsoft operating systems including Windows 95 and later releases.
