The networked soldier

The Pentagon's $145 billion Future Combat Systems program envisions the soldier of the future as a link in a communications network that relies on coordinating high-tech devices, instead of hand-to-hand combat. This recruiting poster puts out the call.

I'd be worried. . .
From one of the photos (#8) it's clearly running Windows, and
the enemy will soon own it.

Well
As it goes with Mobile technology Windows CE based OS's aren't targetted as much as Symbian OS although with it being networked it will be always at risk whatever OS

Scary! Microsoft Army Software
Is anyone else scared that the olive-drab Ipaq shown as part of the Army's future weapons technology appears to be running Windows CE?

This has got to be an April Fools' joke....
Windows CE in an Army weapons system is just too preposterous. This is an April Fools' joke.

US Military "standardized" on Microsoft
While working on a handheld system for theUS Airforce, I was recently told that the AirForce has "standardized" on Windows and .Net. We deployed our system on a ruggedized handheld similar to the one shown in the photo. It was dog slow. We should have used an embedded linux os, but apparently that's not the "standard". I wonder how many golf rounds and 4 martini lunches that Microsoft sales guy had to buy the 5 star general?
