I can't belive they didn't show the powered suit from the movie Aliens. The one that Sigouney Weaver gets into to fight the mother alien. THat was a such a big screen hit, and that scene with the powered suit really made the movie.
Perhaps because it was ALL special effects. Nice scene, mind you, but not a shred of reality.
For instance, I'd bet the author didn't know about this company's product(<a class="jive-link-external" href="http://www.plustech.fi/Walking1.html" target="_newWindow">http://www.plustech.fi/Walking1.html</a>) as they surely should be included...I'm sure there are more projects such as this going on which are furthering 'real' exoskeletons of the future.
while we're on that topic of representation, they coulda chosen a better gundam series to showcase... G Gundam was ... eh. t'was alright. but by far my favorite series was wing. *nod*
Just to correct you, Gundam Wing was made for little girls to be like "ooooohhh cute anime boys OMG OMG", and honestly, it blows. I'm sorry if you disagree, but honestly, they were just picking examples, not trying to find the best of something.
On the story of mechs, Another good example would be Squaresofts "Front Mission" series, It shows giant 18 foot "wanzers" that can be equipped with smgs, shotguns, rpgs, just about anything. Not to mention is very military related, like most other mech influenced scenes.
After reading the last post about leaving out the robot from Aliens the Ripley used, I feel it my duty, being a fan of the Matrix trilogy to cast a vote for the battle robots used by the Zion soldiers to fight off "The Machines" entering into Zion.
While on the subject, do I dare mention... The Power Rangers? Wait, scratch that...
It started as a wargame with miniatures, and is now <a href="http://www.classicbattletech.com/cbt_home.html">Classic BattleTech</a>. It also spun off a line of PC games, the latest one is <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/games/mw4mercs/gamefeatures.asp">Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries</a>.
About 40 years ago, a very imaginative person who also drew a very popular comic strip had features this concept in his other popular Sunday funny papers supplement. His name was Chester Gould and his appraisals of future technology were accurate. One other of his concepts was laser communications. He featured laser light beamed from mountaintop to mountaintop. We know that had not come to be, but now the laser is "piped" through fiber optics, still the same concept. Salute to Chester for his technological visions and his entertaining comic Dick Tracy!

I too have decided to build a giant mech. I have drawn the plans in 2d and proceeded to draw them into 3d. I plan on traveling to alaska and destroying that cheap hunk of metal inside of my mech. want to help fund this project?
The T-52 Enryu HyperRescueRobot can help following earthquakes and other disasters by removing heavy obstacles. it does not walk but it could do the part <a class="jive-link-external" href="http://www.betterhumans.com/News/news.aspx?articleID=2004-03-26-3" target="_newWindow">http://www.betterhumans.com/News/news.aspx?articleID=2004-03-26-3</a> <a class="jive-link-external" href="http://www.enryu.jp/" target="_newWindow">http://www.enryu.jp/</a>
if this thing actually works, its the biggest invention i've heard of. Due to it's immense weight and force it could really be able to do what is told us in the article. Using High-End Equipment the Power of this could be maximized in order to use a Heavier Body Construction (for a heat shield or something similar)! I think this has a real future! And yes, i think it actually is an invention, due to it's low cost but allthough working technology it's a really good invention too :) Imrahil
Awesome!! My dreams are coming true .To bad the army doesn't have anything like it !! By the way....Gigantor wasn't a mecha...just a radio controled robot. Mazinger Z was the first mecha robot (known as Tranzor Z to USA)
I think you should make more of them abd advance your technology! It is a great invention don't waste it(im only 12 and i would want to build a giant robot.)I would love to be the test pilot

It must be the biggest robot ever walking with two legs.
Damn! That American is gonna take the fame of the first giant man-ridding robot from us!
Sorry, My English would be broken.
