New cameras do double duty

While in a particular mode, JVC's Everio GZ-MC100, starting at about $950, will stop shooting video momentarily--dropping in speed about nine frames from the usual 30 frames per second--to take a 2-megapixel picture. A 5-megapixel version of the camera is due to come out later this year.

MPEG4, not MPEG2 peeps...

oops, forgot to mention, it's MPEG4, not MPEG2. Oh what's that mean? Well, the quality ain't as good and you'll have to use software to get it on a playable DVD.

But convergence is inevitable and Sony just HATES it. Their Camcorder biz ($$$$) is going to transmogrify (word o' the day) into something less profitable.
