Truvia - hmmmm
by sjnovakovich January 12, 2005 12:16 PM PST
I had this idea in 1996 and everybody laughed at me and thought I was nuts.

This will fail
by CrabkillaTX January 12, 2005 1:55 PM PST
This is so stupid. So what happens when a new computer or monitor comes out? You toss the $55,000 piece of furniture for a new one?

Besides there are computer desk that restaurants and hotels use to hide furniture already.

Are we in 1999 or are people just still stupid?

A solution for a nonexistant problem.

If you don't want to look at your computer when you aren't using it, save yourself around $53,000 and buy a nice laptop. The only people that will buy these things are those with more money than sense.

For the Rich
by eaglepc January 12, 2005 5:11 PM PST
Not a terrible idea, however, only the rich would pay $55,000 for
a computer built into a desk. Maybe a paranoid business man
would buy one. I know I would never buy such a thing, even if I
were rich enough to justify the expense.

But can it dust itself??
by January 13, 2005 12:02 PM PST
All I know is for that price, the hardware involved should be fast enough and smart enough to call maid to come dust it whenever it detects the need to. A polish on the brass knobs and handles wouldn't hurt either.

Only for a select few
by January 13, 2005 4:30 PM PST
This is of course only for a select few... Even if I had that much
money to spend, I'd much rather spend it on actual technology
rather than furniture for my computer.

The Price is the Problem
by Mendz January 13, 2005 6:22 PM PST
I agree that this is not for everyone.

It is safe to say that we can replace our PC every 3 or 5 years. The problem with this product is the fact that we usually buy furnitures to last a lifetime, if not generations -- which we specially expect when it's wood.

If it's modular enough with room for future PC innovations, it might be worth it. Otherwise, I'll stick to showing what I've got...

for that 55,000 dollars you could get 110 mac minis, besides it
didnt have a decent sound system or come with a leather couch

Just Plain Dumb - but ...

As P.T. Barnum once said, "There's a sucker born every minute"
Or at least he said something like that.

Concept

Its like a concept car. It gets made and then boxed up never to be seen again.

Where are the cables?
by January 17, 2005 6:36 PM PST
Anybody who thinks they can conveniently hide a PC in a desk
like that is nuts. I can just imagine the question being asked at a
party:

"Charles, why on earth is your desk plugged in this wall?"

Mod it
by andyz January 26, 2005 1:52 PM PST
For $5000 I'll mod your existing PC into your existing desk. For $6000 I'll put a Mac mini in a desk drawer and hook up a hidden LCD. What a savings.
