From X-ray to iPod

At UCLA, radiologists Dr. Osman Ratib (right) and Dr. Antoine Rosset study medical images that are stored on an iPod. Their open-source Osirix software allows radiologists to teleconference with the images on Mac desktops.

Lame!!
basically they have turned the iPod into a storage device without using any of the features it was built for, so why the need for a glorified hard drive? So whats the point of specifically using an iPod?

Lame?
The only thing lame about this is your ignornance. This is a major innovation to radiologists. Given the sizes of the images that they deal with, an iPod is an ideal solution. Yes it can be used as a storage device - in this case the music etc are an extra. I saw a demo of this system recently and was very impressed with how the software handled a full slate of MRI images of a stroke victim's brain. The portability alone made this system worth it. Given the size and price of the iPod in comparison to other systems currently in use by radiologists, this is a great use for the iPod.

Not So Lame!
Just try to implement the same with iPod competitors?
USB2 Slower than FireWire400
The use as an external storage is almost inexistent in those
competitors.
