The Real ID Act, which could be signed by President Bush in May, would require states to meet federal standards for electronically readable driver's licenses. Currently state laws can vary widely. In this photo from December 2004, a liquor store in Massachusetts scans a customer's license to verify its authenticity.

When will they be handing out the brown shirts and marching boots? Fascism is here!
minnie
straw that pushed the U.S. over the edge? I could understand this
comment if each card was handed out with "...brown shirts and
marching boots", however posting a comment such as this on this
specific article makes no sense.
I still have goose bumps.
Tha Mark of the Beast will truly be that, when these ID's will be physically implanted in each individual's body (i.e. a microchip). Then everyone will truly bear that mark on their forehead or hand!
The US Congress legislates for two distinct and separate geographic areas.
They legislate for the District of Columbia and the Federal States, such as US territories and possesions, and they also legislsate for the 50 states united by and under the USA Constituion. One has to understand this basic fact, before one goes and assumes that every law passed by Congress applies within the 50 Union states.
The REAL ID Act is NOT law within the 50 UNion states and this fact is proven by reading the REAL Act itself, where the term "States of the United States" is defined and limited to only the certain U.S. territories and possessions, but excludes the 50 Union states.
To wit:
TITLE II--IMPROVED SECURITY FOR DRIVERS' LICENSES AND PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION CARDS
SEC. 201. DEFINITIONS.
In this title, the following definitions apply:
(1) DRIVER'S LICENSE- The term `driver's license' means a motor vehicle operator's license, as defined in section 30301 of title 49, United States Code.
(2) IDENTIFICATION CARD- The term `identification card' means a personal identification card, as defined in section 1028(d) of title 18, United States Code, issued by a State.
(3) SECRETARY- The term `Secretary' means the Secretary of Homeland Security.
(4) STATE- The term `State' means a State of the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and any other territory or possession of the United States. . .
***************
Massachusetts is a state of the USA, it is not one of the States of the United States, because here, the term "United States" means the Federal United States, IT DOES NOT MEAN THE U.S.A.!!!
Once again, the US Congress is lying and tryiong to trick teh American people and the 50 state legislatures into complying with a law that does not actually apply within the 50 Union states.
If Ciongress meant for this law to apply within the 50 Union states of the USA, they wopuld have said so in the definition of the terms used in the ACT itself, they did not do that, so that means that the ACT is not mandatory on the 50 states.
But there is even more compelling evidence that my assertions are true. New Hampshire and last, Maine Legislature, rejected the REAL ID ACT and passed laws AGAINST their Union State DMV from assisting or participating in the REAL ID Program.
So, you have to ask yourselves, if the REAL ID ACT was actually law within the 50 states, how come growing numbers of state legislatures are REFUSING to comply?

"Those who would sacrifice freedom for temporary security deserve neither."
Perhaps our founders knew something that we forgot.
I'd read about this in 2004.
Please read more - use your brain - you've been spoon fed a bunch of crap, I'm so sorry to say.
It's sad and shocking that you and others can't see what's happening right under your nose. This frightens me. It truly does.
I hope to God you are not a member of Congress, or any sort of politician.
Unplug yourself from "the matrix" !
Ive thought for a very long time, that things here in the US were being *over looked* We arent taking care of our own. I dont agree with this *ID Card* and I too, feel that it will lead to the Implanted Chip. *very scary thought* Makes ya wonder what they'll do with the ones who refuse to take it. *very sad how the US has changed*
