Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs touches on year-over-year Mac growth during his keynote address at the annual Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco on Monday.
. . . to tank big time. Why didn't he wait until he had a shipping product. It would have been nice if he offered a retail box of Tiger for the Intel PC. Now PowerPC hardware will be dead-end and no- one is going to buy Power Macs until they start shipping Intel based ones.
You seem to be whining about something, fella. Either you're a newbie or an investment doofus. The announcements of new hardware products has always preceded the actual ship date. Now that the iPod has become the industry leader, and Tiger has gone out for testing by pros and amateurs and will, like the OS's that preceded it, get bug reports and fix stuff and life with Apple will go on like it has for more than 20 years.
You don't make $$ on the stock in the short term. Buy low, sell high. It's that simple.
btw, looks like Steve's posture has improved! Must have been seeing himself on the "iPod Nation" feature on CBS Sunday Morning a couple months ago... he's hot-t-t-t-t.
It doesnt matter to me what Apple does a year from now, as long as software vendors continues to update PPC versions of the software I use at work.
Hopefully, by end of this year, I will buy the next dual core 3GHz PPC replacing my dual 2GHz PPC. In 2 to 3 years, Apple and third party software vendors should have everything figured out and running smoothly, just in time for me to get v.2 of the intel mac desktop... I wouldn't want to be the first ones to buy these first generation intel macs.

So the graph in the photo shows Apple growth exceeding PC growth. Lets see - if you sell 2 computers this year and then plan to sell 4 next year 100% growth WOW?? BFD!! If you took the entire Mac sales and added it to PC sales line you would not even see the blip. BS is what it is.
Anytime a company realizes increased sales that's a good thing. If you had a lemonade stand and sold 100 bucks worth one day and the next day sold 200 buck worth, I'd say you did pretty good! Who cares if Pepsi and Coke sold millions of dollars worth, because for you and your business, you just doubled. No doubt Apple sells more than 100 dollars worth of inventory, so an increase is an increase.
Any business would be pleased to be growing at a more rapid pace than the industry average or their largest competitor. Obviously Apple's sales do not approach PC sales in volume, but, the company is growing profitably and I believe the Intel partnership will only benefit Apple's growth.

Well, I have always believed that the problems that Windows users have had, were attributed to the Windows XP OpSys. Mr. Steve Jobs has now confirmed Apple's move to Intel processors. I think that it's a great move if... Here's the rub: When Apple releases its Mac line with 64 bit Intels, then it will have to make sure that their OS X Tiger can run on ANY Pentium 4, 32 bit, or higher Intel box. If they do not, you will have every hacker & cracker making a translator or emulator for it to run, & risk alienating EVERYONE! OS X on all P4=< machines? Sounds like a great idea! - I hope that this is Mr. Jobs' master plan!
Just because the future Mac will have Intel inside does not mean that it will be an "Intel box" as we know it. They will still be Mac machines but using a different processor. Think back when Apple tansitioned from the old 68k macs to the PowerPC. Still a Mac but with a different chipset. I expect that Mac OS X will never have to worry about the different BIOS' that PC makers have to worry about.

What is important is the software. Apple (NeXT) had the technology to run its OS and software on multiple platforms since NeXTStep (remember Fat Binaries?).
Now that Apple is leveling the "hardware plane", they will be able to compete better on the software plane, and grab some more of that Windows market. Apple will be sure that they will have a good healthy supply of processors.
And to those that criticize Apple's market share, Apple already sells more Personal Computers and a lot of PC vendors. And in terms of Laptop sales Apple is in the top 5. Some well known PC vendors sell a lot less than Apple.
