Maud Fontenoy of France arrived at the Marquises island of Hiva Oa over the weekend after becoming the first woman to row solo across the Pacific Ocean. Fontenoy--also the first woman to row across the North Atlantic Ocean alone--left the Peruvian port of Callao on Jan. 12 in the "Oceor," a 24.6-foot cedar-framed, fiberglass and kevlar rowboat equipped with foodstores, GPS navigation and a satellite communication system. She rowed nearly 4,970 miles, completing her 73-day journey a month earlier than expected.
