'Niagara' falls into prototype

At its analyst conference on Wednesday, Sun Microsystems showed a prototype server that uses an early version of its "Niagara" processor, which can run 32 separate instruction sequences simultaneously. Niagara servers are due out in the first quarter of 2006. The processor is located under a black cooling structure in the center of the server, but in production models, the cooling fins will be smaller, Sun said.
