Indy 500 goes Wi-Fi

Red Bull Cheever Racing cars round the corner together at Motegi in Japan. At this weekend's Indy 500, the cars will be outfitted with hardened, vibration- and heat-resistant Cisco Systems Mobile Access Routers. The routers will transmit data from the car's telemetry sensory systems over a local area Wi-Fi network.

Super Cooooooolllllllll
Cudo's for Cisco Systems getting into the racing scene like this, and to see the technical progression of Wifi.

Quite an achievement
Wi-fi networks have never been really tested in an environment quite like this. It's one thing to do Wi-fi at that speed with ONE access point. It's quite another to have multiple access points and have the network handle the handoffs that would occur in this scenario. I'm curious as to how many sensors the car has, how frequently each of them polls their respective system, and what metrics are being used.

The platform that this entire system is written in would be an impressive thought as well! Java, C#, VB?

Cisco is the best source..
You were wondering what type of programing is in the code that it has to compile.

Here is a link to a 4:02 min video from cisco:

Cisco Wi-Fi in race cars
It was inevitable. In the future, you will see racing cars go faster and faster now that the engineers in the pit are receiving real time data on the car's performance.
