Palm's eBook sales growing

Palm's digital media unit sold nearly 180,000 eBooks in 2001, up more than 40 percent from the previous year, the company said Wednesday. Palm offers about 3,500 titles and is averaging about 1,000 new customers a week, the company added.

The handheld giant also released its lists of top-selling eBooks in 2001. Four of the five top fiction titles come from the master of horror: "Dreamcatcher" by Stephen King; "Timeline" by Michael Crichton; "Riding the Bullet" by King; "The Talisman" by King and Peter Straub; and "Black House" by King and Straub. In the nonfiction category, the top five were "The Procrastinator's Handbook" by Rita Emmett; "Jack: Straight From the Gut" by Jack Welch and John Byrne; "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey; "Surfing the Edge of Chaos" by Richard Tanner Pascale, Mark Milleman and Linda Gioja; and "Get Anyone To Do Anything and Never Feel Powerless Again" by David Lieberman.
