PalmSource appoints new chairman

PalmSource, a maker of software for mobile devices, named Jean-Louis Gassee as its chairman on Tuesday. Gassee, a general partner with venture capital firm Allegis Capital, was previously the president and CEO of Computer Access Technology and of Be. Be's technical assets were bought in 2001 by Palm, which span off PalmSource in October last year.

PalmSource has been looking for a new head since Eric Benhamou announced in August that he would leave the post of chairman after the company's annual meeting of shareholders in October this year.
