PalmOne acting CEO gets permanent slot

PalmOne's board has named acting CEO Ed Colligan as the handheld maker's permanent chief executive, the company said on Monday. Colligan, who has been interim CEO since late February, was also named to the company's board of directors.

"Ed has been a driving force for innovation in mobile computing," PalmOne CEO Eric Benhamou said in a statement. "We have conducted a comprehensive search of external candidates, and have also worked closely with Ed during his tenure as interim CEO. Ed has secured the confidence of the board, our customers, suppliers and employees, and we believe we have chosen the right leader for PalmOne."
