Palm postpones developer conference

Handheld giant Palm is postponing its annual PalmSource developer conference, sources both inside and outside the company told CNET News.com on Thursday.

The conference was originally scheduled for Oct. 23 to 26 in San Jose, Calif., but sources say it will likely be postponed until at least January.

The most recent PalmSource in the United States took place last December in Santa Clara, Calif. The conference is in its fifth year and is the primary gathering for those who create hardware and software for handheld computers that use the Palm operating system.

A number of conferences have been put on hold or shelved following the terror attacks last week in New York and Washington. Apple Computer, for example, canceled next week's Apple Expo in France.

Palm will announce earnings later Thursday.
