P2P service gets label deals

File-swapping software company Wurld Media said Wednesday that it secured licenses to distribute music from all four of the major record labels.

The company's Peer Impact service, which remains in test mode, allows customers to buy songs and then market and distribute them to other members, in return for credit toward future purchases. It does not allow the unrestricted file-swapping found on networks such as Kazaa or eDonkey.

Music has alwayws been a social activity
Finally, a music distribution business model that understands music sales are driven by social activity/interaction, not just marketing hype. While I would like to see less restrictive DRM employed that protects "Fair Use" and the "First sale" doctrine, I still think it is a positive move and is welcome news.
