Oregon angles for open-source businesses

Beaverton, Ore., has provided $1.2 million to launch the Open Technology Business Center, a facility to lure start-ups interested in open-source technology, Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski and Beaverton Mayor Rob Drake announced Tuesday. Entrepreneurs may set up shop in the facility and use its access to experts in the field.

The center will open Feb. 1. Beaverton also is the home of Open Source Development Labs, a multicompany Linux consortium that employs Linux founder and Oregon resident Linus Torvalds.
