Oracle touts new 9i technology

Oracle announced Monday that new compression technology built into its latest 9i database will allow companies to store more information in the database than ever before.

The new compression technology is aimed at companies that need to archive vast amounts of old data, freeing up the database for other uses, such as "data warehousing," which allow companies to examine business information and seek out patterns and trends, an Oracle representative said. Oracle recently released the second version of Oracle 9i database.
