Oracle backs Asian Linux project

Database powerhouse Oracle has certified its software to work on Asianux, a version of Linux made by Japan's Miracle Linux and China's Red Flag Software. The move means customers will be able to receive support from Oracle or the Linux companies for the Oracle 10g database and related software.

Oracle made the announcement at its Openworld conference in Shanghai, China. Oracle is an investor in Miracle Linux. Several hardware companies, including Advanced Micro Devices, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, NEC, Sun Microsystems and Langchao, have certified hardware to work with Asianux, Oracle said.
