Many Peoplesoft customers run their application software on IBM mainframes or UNIX/Windows systems with DB2 databases. Is Oracle going to support Peoplesoft installation on DB2? That wouldn't be consistent with Oracle's corporate personality.

I also doubt they'll have much support for the JDE World package that runs only on IBM eServer iSeries and was rechristened PeopleSoft Enterprise Express. Even if Oracle started supporting this product, it would be the first dropped as a "business decision" by Oracle.

If Ellison's pragmatic side, which has been taking a backseat to his demagogery over the past 20 years, can manage to take control, Oracle can do what IBM does. IBM produces OS's, but IBM middleware runs on many platforms. IBM middleware also integrates with other companys' middleware offerings. If Oracle could find that kind of self-confidence instead of insisting Oracle Oracle Oracle, maybe people could start taking its claims of supporting PeopleSoft customers seriously.
