Opera Software released an upgraded version of its browser for Nokia mobile phones.

Opera 6.1 is an update of the browser for Nokia 6600 phone, which the company launched recently. Opera said the new version, released on Monday, is smaller, uses less memory, and has a new menu interface and several bug fixes.

The latest version is meant for Nokia's Series 60 phones--Nokia 3650, 7650 and N-Gage--which use the Symbian operating system. Opera uses small-screen rendering (SSR) technology that reformats standard HTML Web pages to fit on mobile-device screens. Last month, Opera unveiled a new browser version for Ericsson P800 smart phones.

The Oslo, Norway-based software maker said the browser will be available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Traditional and Simplified Chinese.

Nokia has offered its customers a free, 14-day trial of the software, which can be downloaded from the company's Web site. After that, the software will be available for $29. In Europe and Africa, it's included with the purchase of Nokia's 6600.
