Open Market to give server more speed

  • Post a comment
Open Market plans next week to deliver an update of its Web server that will allow faster connections to external applications such as databases.

The company also today announced a deal with Internet consulting firm Utopia to package OpenMarket's Web server and electronic commerce software with Utopia's site design services.

Open Market's Secure WebServer 2.0 will include a FastCGI feature, designed to connect to other applications faster than traditional common gateway interface (CGI) programs, Open Market said. FastCGI connections can also be distributed across a network to link to existing corporate systems, while CGIs must reside on a server.

The new server will also support the latest versions of Secure Sockets Layer and Microsoft's Private Communications Technology encryption, virtual hosts, a server API, and improved forms-based administration.

For a limited time, the company will offer its Secure WebServer for $895.

Open Market will also bundle WebReporter 2.0, a tool for analyzing Web server activity, with WebServer 2.0. The company will sell the upgrade of WebReporter as a standalone product for $495.
