In a full-court press on its rivals, InterZine Productions on Monday will announce that it has lured away the executive who helped it build the ESPNet SportsZone Web site to be its president.
Tom Hagopian, who held titles including vice president and general manager during his 10-year tenure at ESPN, will report to founder Brian Henley.
In an interview, Hagopian and Henley said the company would make more acquisitions and add more sports to its roster.
InterZine focuses on participatory sports, such as golf, skiing and snowboarding, rather than spectator sports--basketball, football-- as ESPN does.
The field is crowded. There are more than 1,000 golf sites alone. But "we feel there's a shakeout coming," Hagopian said.
