OneWave launches Web tool

OneWave (OWAV) today debuted the beta version of a new Internet application development tool.

OneWave Connector 1.0 is integrated with Microsoft's Visual InterDev Web development tool and allows developers to build software that links to business applications from SAP, PeopleSoft, and other makers, as well as to CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture)-compliant applications from within Microsoft's Internet Information Server Web server.

Pricing starts at $30,000 per server, the company said.

Working with the connector within Visual InterDev, developers use component editors to survey and expose back-end services within SAP and PeopleSoft applications, as well as applications linked via Borland's Entera and CORBA middleware. This eliminates the need to learn a new set of tools to add enterprise access to Web-based applications, said the company.

The company expects to release OneWave Connector for Microsoft IIS to the general public in the first quarter of 1998. There is no development license fee for use of the tool, and the company will offer free product training.

OneWave is a Watertown, Massachusetts-based company that develops preconfigured applications. It also creates ways in which components can draw data from core business processes and then distribute the information throughout a large company using Web browsers or existing desktop applications.
